Last year I had the honor of attending a “Conversations With God” workshop with Neale Donald Walsch. The first thing I want to say is don’t let language get in your way. If you don’t like the word God, please replace it with whatever works for you. In this day and time, that word can be charged with emotion, fear, anger or love. Use what works for you. That is the name of his book, hence the title of my post.
One of the first things that I noticed about this man was his calm presence and the fact that he went around the room shaking everyone’s hand and thanking them for being there. He set up the ‘conversation experience’ by first telling us the 7 steps to Conversations With God.
1) Believe there is a God
2) Believe that God talks to humans directly
3) Believe that He talks to humans directly right now, and that you are one of them
4) Believe that you are worthy to receive the message
5) Be open and ready to receive it
6) Don’t discount or reject the message
7) Try not to call it something else
He then asked us to write a question down in our notebook. After guiding us through a brief meditation, he asked us to answer that question with whatever came up for us -
Here is my ‘Conversation With God’
Question : How do I open my heart to feel?
Answer : Do not be afraid. The heart will not break. An open heart is one of God’s greatest gifts yet man doesn’t understand and tries to dampen a perfect instrument. Be guided by an open heart. Play it like an instrument and delight in the chords that are played. Do not fear. You are safe.
I think the answer I received says it all.
I have been searching for my voice. How do I differentiate the voice(s) in my head with my real voice (OK, OK, that is another blog all together). I will it to come forth. I am setting my intention. Anyone that knows me will find this quite amusing. I have never been known to keep my thoughts or opinions to myself and idle chit chat bores me to tears. I love deep, challenging, life changing conversations. The voice that I am talking about isn’t the one that you hear come out of my mouth. It is my writing voice. You see, I have this thing about writing. I am still not sure where it started. I will talk all day long, but write it down? Now that is a different story. I have a stack of journals with the first 2 or 3 pages written on. When I go back and read some of it, sometimes I am shocked that I actually wrote the prose within. Some of it is pretty darn good. I am pretty sure that is has nothing to do with someone liking or not liking what I write. Things like that don’t bother me much. I love everyone to have an opinion. It makes the conversation all the more fun. Maybe it is because this seems to be a one way conversation. Hmmmm, I may be on to something there. I also think it is because I have such a reverence for books and along with that the written word. I think it has more to do with “who am I to put this out there”. But then again who am I not to? As Marianne Williamson said
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
― Marianne Williamson, Return to Love
So I set forth my intention right here, right now to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous and to shine my light just as bright as I can. Dang it, did I just hit submit on this????
